Located about 31 miles north of Yellowstone's North Entrance lays a small town, Emigrant, Montana. Emigrant isn't your big, touristy city, but it offers a lot of authentic charm! Specifically, The Old Saloon. Here, local cowboys and cowgirls share a beer with their friendly neighbors. During the summer, live music fills the valley as people take to the dance floor.
First opened in 1902 to service the rail line passing through the Paradise Valley en route to Yellowstone National Park. Emigrant was the halfway point on the journey from Livingston to Yellowstone. With the depot located directly in front of the Old Saloon, it became the perfect pit stop for the weary traveler. The rail was also used for agricultural and mining transportation. This brought cowboys, miners, and tourists to the bar at the Old Saloon – a tradition that continues today [cited from Old Saloon website].
